Melbourne’s Best Sunday Afternoon

ITD Recommends

Every Sunday at the Palmz
(Upstairs at The Carlton Club)
193 Bourke Street, Melbourne, VIC 3000

After their sell out first date, we sat down with our girl Karen From Finance to chat about Drag Brunch at the Palms.

What gave you the idea to start Drag Brunch at the Palms?
My partner and I went over to the states earlier this year for RuPaul’s Drag Con. Everywhere we went we saw posters for Drag Brunches at basically every bar. I was lucky enough to be asked to perform at one in Minneapolis and it was one of the most enjoyable gigs I have ever been to. It’s a great way to enjoy some shows, have a few drinks, and not be surrounded by all the other stuff that comes with late night clubbing. Sunshine – mimosas – drag shows – they just go hand in hand!

Tell us a bit about your sisters who join you every Sunday
We’re so lucky to have the cast that we have. All of the girls are so different and they each bring something truly special to the brunch. Polly Filla is so much fun. Her acts are always high energy and she really knows how to work the rooftop. Then there’s Art Simone. Art is one of the most unique and creative drag artists around, and her numbers are always so calculated and enchanting. Jessica James brings some really awesome old school comedy to the table, and can have you rolling on the floor in stitches with nothing more than the jolt of her upper lip. We also have Jemima Handful joining us as special guest whenever myself or one of the other girls are away. She brings the high energy high kicks and splits and death drops that Drag Brunches are famous for. Jemima just tears the house down!

Your first show was sold out, how did it go?
Yes, we sold our first show out! Honestly, whether there’s 20 people or 100 people – the brunches are so fun. But having a sell out for our launch just brought the best energy to the rooftop. The sun was shining and we just had the best day. Apparently our crowd could be heard from across the city!

What’s included in the ticket price?
So the ticket is capped at $55. That includes reserved table seating, A La Carte brunch, 3 mimosas each, access to our fresh fruit, bircher muesli and yoghurt buffet, 2 fabulous drag shows, photo opportunities with all the girls, as well as a take home gift from us. Even the booking fee is included in the ticket price! $55 is the most you’ll pay, and you won’t even have to touch your wallet/purse on the day – unless you want a few extra cocktails from the specials list!

And you’re running until December 17th?
We run every Sunday until December 17. We’re going to take a few weeks off for Chrissie and then we are planning a big return in 2018. Fingers crossed!

How do I get tickets?
You can get tickets through my website at www.karenfromfinance.com/dragbrunch
Tickets will remain on sale until 5pm of the Friday prior to each brunch.

There you have it, the perfect excuse to get you out of bed on a Sunday for a lovely roof top afternoon. Get yourself some sunshine, enjoy a few cocktails and join in the fun with Karen and her sisters! Get your tickets now from  www.karenfromfinance.com/dragbrunch

The Trixie & Katya Show Preview

We’ve been lucky enough to get a media preview of the first three episodes of The Trixie & Katya Show and honey, OOOOHHHHH HOOOOOOONEEEEEEY! You guys are in for a treat!

They’ve upgraded their stools, they’ve shed their wigs to head out to the street and they have all new boxes of crap that Katya shouldn’t be putting near her face or in her mouth, but you know she does anyway!

You’ll get all the cackling, moaning, silent laughs and post verbal goodness that you love from UNHhhh in a new, larger package. We all love a larger package, am I right? You’ll absolutely Jodie Foster their behaviour in the new segments just as much as the green screen tomfoolery you’re accustomed to.

Trixie and Katya are both returning to Australia in 2018.

Trixie will be here in June with her show Accessories Sold Separately

Katya returns for Dragfest 2018 in July.

Check out the UNHhhh panel from NYC Dragcon earlier this year with special guest, Bob The Drag Queen who will also be at Dragfest 2018.

Tune in to Viceland November 16th to get your Trixie & Katya fix! Watch the trailer below.

S.O.S! Cher To Join The Cast of Mamma Mia 2

Gimmie! Gimmie! Gimmie! I’m so ready for a Cher and Meryl reunion on the big screen.

While they were both in the movie Stuck On You in 2003, they haven’t starred together since Silkwood in 1983. This is also Cher’s first movie role since Burlesque in 2010.

You’ll have your second chance to say Thank You For The Music mid 2018 when the film is released. It will mark 10 years since the first movie came out.

Stan Delivering The Goods Once Again!

The moment we heard about the All Stars Season 3 Ruveal we contacted Stan to check if they’d be bringing the episode to Australian screens. They didn’t have an immediate answer for us, but last night, while we were busy partying at Mary’s Poppin, the team at Stan hit us up to let us know they would indeed be bringing us the Ruveal episode!

They don’t have a date locked down just yet, so let’s all keep our fingers crossed that it will be the same time we’re used to getting the regular episodes!

Alaska Takes on Valentina

Everyone’s favourite snake from Season 5 and All Stars 2 has taken one of the hottest songs of 2017 and smashed it together with everything that made Season 9 fan favourite, Valentina a sensation. Alaska doesn’t miss a beat with this parody, she’s giving you champagne and red M&Ms realness and we LOVE IT! Watch the music video below.

You can catch Alaska in just a few weeks at The Sickening Halloween Ball, Melbourne is sold out and Sydney and Brisbane are not far behind! Get your tickets now.

We’ve reached out to Stan to see if they’ll be fast tracking that episode for us, we’ll keep you posted.

Rumour has it that the season will be hitting the airwaves in January 2018. Has your favourite made the cut? Find out next weekend!
