We about spit out our tea—and crumpets—when after years of rumours, the BBC announced that RuPaul’s Drag Race is officially jumping the pond with RuPaul’s Drag Race U.K., a new eight-part series set to air on BBC Three in 2019.
There are so many British celebrities and pop culture icons we would love to see grace the stage in the new U.K. series, below we listed some of our dream challenges and runway challenges inspired by the best of Britain.
A Royal Family challenge
RuPaul himself already said that a “Royal-Mother-To-Be” challenge was in the works, so why not have a challenge where the queens have to dress up as famous royal queens from British history? Where do they live? Tuckingham Palace, of course!
Sweetie, darling! Eddie and Patsy are pretty much drag queens already, so it would be perfect for the Drag Race contestants do an Ab Fab acting challenge—and of course Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley would be the guest judges for that episode.
Tea With the Dames
We need more queens impersonating legendary actresses like Judi Dench and Maggie Smith—especially after seeing BenDeLaCreme’s Dowager Countess on Snatch Game. English? They originated the language!
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Henny
Michelle Visage is a Slytherin, but we would love to find out what houses the Drag Race queens belong to in a magical runway challenge inspired by the Boy Who Lived.
The library is open: British literary icons
Speaking of Harry Potter, there are plenty of other British books and characters like Sherlock Holmes, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, King Arthur, Pride & Prejudice, Brideshead Revisited, the list goes on and on—if nothing just to have a queen impersonate Carol Channing’s bonkers “Jam Tomorrow” number.
Monty Python’s Tucking Circus
Monty Python’s Flying Circus was a big influence on RuPaul as a child, so a Monty Python-inspired episode is pretty much a given.
Bond Girls galore
Pussy Galore, Honey Ryder, Octopussy, Xenia Onatopp—need we say more?
We would love to see the girls serve some Twiggy on the runway!
The return of Shakesqueer
Drag Race Season 7 already featured a Shakespeare acting challenge, but let’s have the British girls break out their best Bard.
A visit to EastEnders and Coronation Street
We would love to see the queens soak up the drama in an acting challenge inspired by two of the U.K.’s long-running nightly soaps—especially if they get to deliver Peggy’s iconic EastEnders line: “Get outta my pub!”
What would a U.K.-inspired series be without some of our favorite British pop divas? Spice Girls! Girls Aloud! Little Mix! Amy Winehouse! Adele! Duffy? Sure!
Separate the tops from the soggy bottoms!
We don’t necessarily mean that the queens have to bake a cake—even though we would love that—but a Great British Bake Off-inspired runway look could separate the tops from the soggy bottoms. And obviously we would love to see Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood reunite as judges for the episode.
Category is: Time Lord eleganza
Have the girls sashay out of the TARDIS with a Doctor Who-inspired runway challenge, complete with the newest doctor, Jodie Whittaker, as a special guest judge.
Some of our favourite telly stars
With the show shooting in the U.K. Drag Race gets to tap into a lot of British TV stars that usually can’t make it to L.A. Graham Norton, Alan Carr, Miranda Hart, and Jo Brand are just some of our fave telly celebs we would love to see join Ru and Michelle behind the judges’ table.
Fierce queens, duh!
This one is a given, but we can’t wait to see some of the U.K’s fiercest queens walk the runway, and serve us not only fish, but fish and chips! Keep calm and henny on!
