Pull up to the bumper, baby!
Legendary singer and performer Grace Jones has been announced as the Saturday headliner act for New York’s Pride Island, during Pride weekend.
“We’re thrilled to be able to create this multi-day experience, which speaks to an inclusive set of Pride-goers, during one of the biggest Pride events in the world,” NYC Pride’s managing director Chris Frederick said in a statement. “With the iconic Grace Jones headlining on Saturday and the incredible list of curated talent, this musical experience is definitely not to be missed.”
In addition to Jones, other Saturday performers were announced including Brazilian drag superstar Pabllo Vittar, and Teyana Taylor. Afro-Latina pop artist Amara La Negra and DJ Johnny Dynell will also hit the stage on that Saturday.
“I couldn’t be more excited to perform in front of my LGBTQIA+ friends and the community that’s supported me for so many years during WorldPride 2019,” Jones said in a statement. “Saturday’s Pride Island lineup will be a celebration of everything that the community stands for and will go down in illustrious history.”
Tickets for Saturday’s festivities are still available, but tickets for Sunday are already sold out—without a headliner even being announced yet.
Kylie Minogue and Tove Lo headlined last year’s Pride Island, so we can only imagine which superstar they will announce for this year’s Sunday’s slot (perhaps a certain Material Girl?)
NYC Pride Island will take place Saturday June 29 and Sunday, June 30 at Pier 97 in New York.
