The reigning Miss Congeniality for “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” Nina West, has seen her name grace the sides of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream pints, BrewDog cans of beer and Homage T-shirts the past few weeks.
Now it will be on a Columbus street sign.
To commemorate a milestone year for the city’s beloved drag queen, Hull Alley at High Street has been renamed The Nina West Way, effective Tuesday.
On the heels of her sixth-place finish on the 11th season of the reality drag competition, fans, in collaboration with Stonewall Columbus and the Short North Alliance, initiated a street renaming to honor West, portrayed by Andrew Levitt, according to a press release from the Short North Alliance.
A crowdfunding campaign on social media raised the $800 fee to install the sign and additional proceeds from the fundraising were donated to the Nina West Fund at the Columbus Foundation. As West, Levitt has raised more than $2 million for charities nationwide.
The street sign features colors from the gay and trans pride flags, as well as the message, “Be Kind.”
You can catch Nina West down under later this year when she joins her Season 11 sisters for the Spooktacular Sickening Ball in New Zealand and Australia. Get all the details and snatch your tickets HERE.
