Salma Hayek is dragging it up for 2020.
In her new movie, Like a Boss, the Oscar-nominated actress plays Claire Luna, a maniacal makeup mogul who tries to buy a cosmetics company owned by besties Mel (Rose Byrne) and Mia (Tiffany Haddish).
In an exclusive interview with NewNowNext, Hayek reveals why she considers her character to be a drag queen in the new big-screen comedy.
“I wanted to be in drag for this one. I love the celebration… to make yourself like a work of art, to go with the fantasy of beauty,” she explains. Originally, Hayek had envisioned injecting her lips and using Botox to achieve Claire’s look, but since she had to shoot another film immediately after Like a Boss, she had to settle for a big Ann Margaret wig and a set of fake teeth.
Not only does Hayek talk about dragging it up for Like a Boss, she also comments on one of her movies beloved by her LGBTQ fans: the disco camp classic 54.
“I think only my gay fans watched that movie,” she adds. “I’m glad someone saw it and enjoyed it!”
